Last chance to sign up for the Fastpitch League

Thu 1 Mar 2018

The registration deadline for anyone who wants to sign up to play in the Great Britain Fastpitch League (GBFL) this season, including experienced fastpitch players, slowpitch players who want to give it a go, and even complete beginners, is Wednesday 21 March.

All GBFL games are played on the high-quality diamonds at Farnham Park Baseball and Softball Complex near Slough.

The GBFL has been growing over the past couple of seasons, and is now an established part of the British softball scene.  The league has a Women’s Division and a Men’s Division, and games are played mainly on Saturdays during the early part of the season, from late April through early June.

The winners of each division are eligible to enter European Women’s and Men’s Cup competitions in the following season.

Dates

This year, the GBFL will have seven playing dates – six Saturdays and one Sunday when there will be a full weekend of play.  The dates are:

Saturday 21 April
Saturday 28 April
Saturday-Sunday 5-6 May
Saturday 12 May
Saturday 26 May
Saturday 2 June

The expectation is that the league will consist of four women’s teams this year and five men’s teams.

Players without previous fastpitch experience are more than welcome, and coaching support will be provided.  The standard of play in the GBFL is good, and the games are fun and exciting – but the standard of play isn’t high enough to be scary or prevent anyone from playing and having a good time.

Registration

All players are asked to register for the GBFL as individuals, whether they are already an established member of a GBFL team or willing to be assigned to a new team or a team needing more players.

The budget for the league is still being worked out and won’t be finalised until the number of teams are known, but costs per player for the full GBFL season are likely to be around £80, or less than £12 per day.  Players will eventually pay a fee to the team they play for, who in turn will pay the league, and the money will cover pitch hire, umpire costs, balls, trophies and BSF affiliation fees.
